On my mind ...

This is a Friday photo feature that anyone with a blog can join. To take part, post a photo on your own blog, write a short caption explaining it, and link it back to here from your blog by saying you're part of "On my mind". Please write a new post, don't link to an older one. When you've done that, come back here and add a comment below, with a link to your blog.

Today I'll be thinking about finding some cheap fresh fruit that I can use in my preserving class next week. I used those above earlier this year to make nectarine jam. Later today I'll do a blanket reply to everyone who wrote about my gmail account, and write to Google complaining that my account was hacked. If someone can get into my gmail, they could potentially gain access to my blog as well!  Tomorrow I hope to reply to a few of the hundred emails I owe. I get so many emails, I never have the time to answer all of them. If you're waiting for one and don't get it by tomorrow, I apologise for not replying.

And an update on my last week's On my mind, the little blue Sacred Kingfisher that slammed into my window last week survived. I've seen him again this week swooping through the garden looking for lizards. He's as good as gold.

Thank you for visiting this week and for the wonderful comments many of you left. I hope you have a beautiful weekend.

  2. You are beginning the fruit season and we are ending ours with apples coming in by the bushel loads. Today my thoughts are on the Hoards Frost we had last night and our local fall fair.

    Enjoy the weekend.

  3. Today in the UK it's been quite autumnal. Now that it's dark, I've suddenly remembered that I forgot to get sugar for the mush of quinces that are currently in a bag straining, ready to be made in to jelly. I must remember to get the sugar first thing tomorrow morning!

  4. Sorry to hear about your account getting hacked. It is awful to think that people are getting access to your information.
While I have time away from paid work, I am enjoying exploring the wonders of sourdough. Using some bannetons had been on my mind all week and I actually managed to do it yesterday.

  6. Hi Rhonda,
I'm just cleaning up the garden for the winter, applying some compost and putting the beds to rest. I do still have some active beds with late greens.

This weekend my hometown hosts its annual BirdFest. http://www.ridgefieldfriends.org/birdfest.php
I wish you all could come. I take my grandson every year. He loves to see the turkey vultures barn owls and bald eagles up close. We take nature walks with our binoculars. It's a special day we spend together annually.

Other than that, I look forward to moving my furniture around and rearranging my back bedroom to be more functional. Some decluttering will be involved! Cheers!! --Kay

  7. That's awful about your gmail account Rhonda . It's such a horrible feeling. My hotmail acct was hacked into a couple of years back and I lost it all - couldn't even access it again. Plus people on my list got the spam.
The worst part was not being able to access all my old emails. I used it as a filing system for a heap of things and contacts. My problem had been (I think) that my password had been weak - using parts of my name. Never again!

It certainly raises a lot of questions about the security or our blogs etc. Unless you have your own domain, and even then, I think we are vulnerable. At least your blog is backed up in the State Library Archives Rhonda!!!

Glad to hear the kingfisher survived! That's good news.

  8. This is my first time taking part. On my mind today is my marine, whose birthday is today. We are so proud of him!

  9. Thanks for the heads-up on the Gmail account. I'll change my passwords on my accounts today, too.

I'm glad the kingfisher is doing okay. We rescued a sunbird from the dogs' water bucket and took it to the vet as it was half drowned. When we picked it up the next day, we'd discovered she'd laid an egg in the car on the way home.

On my mind today is my nana, who died 2 years ago next week. I miss her dreadfully.

  11. Nice to hear your kingfisher is doing well and flying around. We've had a few birds crash into the window and they've all managed to gather themselves and fly off after a few minutes, but it still scares the dickens out of me!
The nectarine jam sounds wonderful...makes me wish I was there to be a part of your class!
    Have a wonderful weekend. :)

My twitter account was hacked recently and so I'm feeling your pain. I've also had my ebay account hacked - they were trying to use it to get into paypal, but failed thank goodness.

  17. I'm so pleased the little guy is okay! We had one that died after he flew into one of our glass sliding doors, he was so beautiful.

On my mind today is my weekend away on a sewing retreat with the ladies from my local sewing and craft group. We meet once a month and we have been working towards going on a retreat for what seems like forever! I am so looking forward to it!

  18. Hi Rhonda,
Too bad that your account has been done in. Have you changed your password yet? When my hotmail one started sending out emails to everyone, changing my password stopped everything.
I hope it's that simple for you!

  20. I don't have a picture or a blog but I've been thinking about raising different ducks, geese or turkeys next year. Do they lay regularly? Are they hard to raise for food? Organic turkey is expensive and you can't buy duck or goose here, you have to go hunting or know someone who does.

  25. Hi Rhonda, I thought I had posted a comment but it has disappeared! I was saying that I wish I was close enough to come to your preserving class because I'm self taught and would love more information. Never sure if I'm getting it right, and occasional mould in the jars!

Her life-partner Johnny had to be moved outside because she wasn't having him anywhere near the kits, and i nearly keeled over when we did a head count... 10! 10 pinkie squeakers in my living room, and a week early!

I'm about to make some Wildings Apple Jelly this weekend, and this and a post elsewhere set me to pondering about whether our mindset to preserve and grow and keep a good storecupboard on a large scale is limited by finances to those who can afford it? Or is it just a case of starting small and adding to the stash?
