A Blue Sky organic cotton scarf

I've been waiting for the new organic cotton to arrive at Ecoyarns. Last week it came in and Salihan sent me two skeins of Blue Sky organic cotton in a very pretty soft pink Shell colour.  I was going to knit up a quick cotton shawl for my granddaughter but Gracie chewed up my most of my circular needles 🙄 so I ended up making a cowl scarf. The cotton is beautifully soft and as this scarf will be near Eve's face, I know she'll be happy to wear it.

The cotton is 10ply so it was quick and easy to knit with. I've decided to do make this as my Christmas knit so it will be ready for Eve to wear next winter.  That should use up the remaining Blue Sky Shell cotton and give me enough time to start a vest for myself using the Allhemp 8ply I have here. It's a lovely soft grey which will go well with some of my clothes.

My plan was to embroider some rose buds on the scarf but the knit rows were too bulky and they got lost, so I went with buttons instead.  I haven't decided which ones to use yet but I'm probably going to go with the three red buttons in the top photo or the teddy faces in this one.

The Blue Sky cotton comes in a range of beautiful colours which you can see here at Ecoyarns.

  1. Lovely cowl scarf. Can I ask if there is a pattern available for this. Thank you 😊

    1. I didn't have a pattern. As I didn't have any circular needles, I knit a rectangle on straight needles. When it was the right length, I twisted it once, which is what forms the front, and sewed the two ends together. I think it works well.

  2. Good morning! This is a lovely cowl, the colour is just beautiful. What a good idea to go with the buttons, I wouldn't have thought of that. I am just learning knitting and love to see what you are doing here. I also like your new photo up there 😊.

  7. Hi Rhonda,

the scarf looks so pretty and soft. The quilted fabric under the scarf and buttons is just beautiful. Would you happen to know what the fabric design name is? It looks perfect both in terms of colour and pattern for a quilting project I will be starting soon as a Christmas gift.
I made a point of listening to the radio broadcast that you mentioned on Friday's weekend reading list- it was lovely to actually hear you speak. Thank you for featuring the photo of the meatballs you made. I was reminded that I still haven't made meatballs with your recipe and I am really looking forward to making them for my family.
    Warm regards, Maria.

    1. Hi Maria, I'm sorry I have no idea the name or maker of the fabric. They are cushion covers I've had for about ten years. I hope you enjoy the meatballs. xx

  10. Funnily enough I was looking at that gorgeous yarn when the shopkeeper was incredibly rude to me a few weeks ago. It looks like it knitted up beautifully. I'm knitting my Mum a scarf at the moment with Blue Sky Fibres Woolestok at the moment. I hope you're having a lovely week, It's POURING here so I'm making soup and bread and hoping it'll stop before school pick up time. xx

    1. Try Salahan at Ecoyarns, Kate, she is the polar opposite of "incredibly rude". I'm loving the Blue Sky yarns. I'll try their wool soon. Boooo! at your rain. It's blue skies here and we're having frittata and salad for lunch. xx
