Weekend reading

Dear friends, I thank you for your patience. The stats tell me that several thousand of you are visiting everyday during my break so I thought I'd pop in with a list of weekend reads and to tell you I'll be back mid-next week. Hanno and I have been busy with all sorts of things here but I'll tell you about that when I come back.

For those of you in Australia, don't forget it's National Bird Week and the backyard bird count is on right now. It finishes on Sunday. I was ready to do my count yesterday afternoon but storms threatened, which affects bird numbers, so I'll be out there doing my count this afternoon.

I hope things are good in your home. Enjoy the weekend, take time for yourself and you family and friends and get ready to dive in head first again next week.  I'll see you then! xx

Ziferblat. I saw a TV program about this in the middle of a stormy night recently so the next morning I searched for it online.  Originating in Russia, they feel more like a neighbourhood centre to me, but these places look like homes with living rooms, craft rooms and libraries. I'd hate to recommend anything to you that was touted as "the latest" no matter what it was, but even though this might feel like the latest trend to many people, to me it's an old-fashioned meeting place, and that is timeless.

  2. So good to see a blog post appearing on my Reading List, Rhonda. I did the bird count yesterday afternoon and wondered why I could hardly see any birds. Now I know as they probably knew a hailstorm was on the way :-)

  4. You can't get rid of us, Rhonda. That's wonderful that you have so many readers. The bird watching sounds interesting. I love seeing photos of your colorful birds in Australia. We have different ones, here in California. Thanks for the weekend reading.

  6. Thanks for the links Rhonda. The cost of electricity is certainly a cause for concern for many. And I was watching on TV that we are facing rising prices for baked good due to the rising price of butter. Really enjoyed the article on Living the Rural Dream.

    1. Hi Amanda. There was no pressure, I loved seeing people reading the older posts. There are many new readers here and I think there's a lot of information in the archives that I think can help those looking to simplify. Everything is good here. I hope it is in your home too. See you next week. xx

  10. I love your Weekend Reading posts, there’s always something in there for me!

Those tomatoes look so delicious. I’m in Adelaide at the moment and the local Foodland has beautiful, locally grown heirloom tomatoes for sale so I’ll be stocking up before I go home.

  14. Hi Rhonda, I am so pleased you are all ok up there. Looking forward to reading some more from you.

October has not been a pleasant month for us. My 95yo mother passed away, her funeral was last Tuesday week. She was ready to go. Then we visited family interstate for a few days. We came back to a very unwell 14yo dog. He went to sleep today and is buried in our yard next to our other dog.

Tough day but life goes on. Really looking forward to reading your news later this week. Take care.

  15. I love your weekly reading suggestions and always find something interesting. Ziferblat sounds similar to what I do on the first Saturday afternoon of the month. Friends pop in for "crafternoons". We have new crafts to share, or bring your own, then of course we have an afternoon tea as well. It is nice to catch up with each other, and be creative at the same time.
