You, me and the kitchen sink

Today our kitchen travels take us to Arizona, to Marcia's kitchen in Wilhoit.

Marcia writes: "I love reading your blog.  I, too, live a frugal and sustainable life.  I must admit though, I love your tutorials.  I plan on making my first batch of soap this week.  I submit the following two photos of my kitchen.  They consist of the left and right side.  The back door separates the two sides."

Marica, another lovely old-fashioned kitchen. It reminds me a bit of my grandma's kitchen. She had a stone sink and her bits and pieces out were they would be used.  Thanks for sharing your kitchen with us.

  3. Great kitchen and so organized! I have a question about the pineapple vinegar. Mine has been on the counter for a week- it is "bubbling" but has developed an alcohol smell. Is this normal? My home is on the cold side-usually around 64 to 66 degrees. Thank you! Dee

  4. I like that kitchen. Everything is at the ready and one doesn't have to go looking for it!

  5. Dee, it needs longer than a week. See how it goes after another week or so. If the alcohol smell doesn't go, you can evaporate the alcohol off by boiling it before use.

  14. This reminds me of a good old country kitchen one where I feel very much at home after years of cooking in them on cattle stations.
A kitchen where something is always on the go & the water always boiled & ready for a cuppa. Thank you for sharing this with us Marcia.

  16. It's nice to a kitchen from the other side of the world and to know there are others around the globe who aspire to simple living.

  19. I Love Marcia's kitchen ! Mine is kind of on the same lines, everything open and while your cooking you reach for items you need.I use glass jars also, so easy to find an item you need. We are still remodeling ours I will be glad when completed, but I refuse to complain becuase with the economy so many people are losing thier homes, and I have so much to be Thankful for.
    Have a great wk.end.
A Big Thanks to Marcia for sharing her photo's.

  20. Hi Rhonda,

  21. Lovely kitchen.

The open shelving looks great, but in my experience is a total pain. Had open shelving a few years ago in a different house and it takes a lot of time to keep all that exposed cookware and dinnerware and glassware clean

  24. I like that open shelving so everything is to hand. We're doing our kitchen at the moment and instead of wall cupboards will have open shelves.

I have so many lovely vintage kitchen tools and pieces of crockery it's a shame to hide them all away.

  25. First, it is a great to read about a kitchen that is in "neighborhood". LOL I live in the next state over in the southwest.

Second, I do have some comments for Rhonda and as I am never sure where or how to do this and seeing others in this post, I am going to go for it. First, love the picture. And I love it that people read this blog carefully enough to notice that! Second, I just made some yogurt cheese. It tastes as if it went bad in the process. Is that possible? If so, how do I prevent it? Or is this unique (which I have trouble believing!) Thanks for any help.

  26. Wow, Marcia~ it looks like you could prepare just about anything in that kitchen! I'll admit I'm jealous of the counter space and so much storage. Love the black and white pic!

  28. So very interesting! I have for years always ended up in whatever house we lived, removing some if not all the kitchen cabinet doors/once it was in an effort to open up and lighten up the dark room. With the last move I removed only one section of cabinet doors to show off my fiestaware. This is not a problem for me b/c I always PUT THINGS BACK IN THE SAME PLACE & dishes or whatever..are always arranged in a very orderly fashion..[can't help it!] It wouldn't work [for me] if the shelves were filled haphazardly.

  30. I love it. Some people want the big fancy custom kitchen--which I had in the past. But this is the kind of kitchen I crave now. Unfortunately the house I have now has all built in cabinets and there is absolutely no room to put anything extra in the kitchen. Oh, but I can dream. Great job Marcia.
