The blog is closing

I shouldn’t have reopened my blog. I should have gone with my instincts and just disappeared. There have been so many new visitors since I reopened but very few of them are commenting, saying hello or connecting in any way.

I thought I might be able to take advantage of the increased numbers by offering new workshops. Despite having well over 165,000 visitors so far this month, when I advertised the workshops I got only seven emails wanting more info or a booking. All were from people I recognised, nothing from any new readers. That was surprising and very disappointing.  I explained why I was doing the workshops. I said I needed to build up my savings because since Hanno died I’d paid for funeral and legal costs, house repairs, new solar panels (the old ones were a fire hazard), much higher insurance costs and the increased cost of living. I know many others are in the same boat so I reduced the cost of the workshops to $50, half what I usually charge, but it made no difference. In a few weeks I’ll be 78 years old so there aren’t a lot of jobs I can do.

It was a mistake to come back. I’ve decided to cancel the workshops and soon I’ll be closing the blog permanently.

When I reopened the blog, I used to smile when readers said ‘welcome back to the blog’ because I hadn’t been anywhere. While it was closed, I saw it every day as it is in my computer. Now I plan to go through every post because I lost thousands of photos a few years ago when I stored them on an external hard drive. They’re all still on the blog and I plan on rescuing them so I have all my family photos and memories together. Who knows, I might even turn it into a book and give a copy to everyone in my family. After all, they are their family memories too.

I have a lot of things I’m working on here. Generally my days are full, rewarding and enjoyable. I have two new projects I’m working on and excited about so that’s my future now.

Thanks to the readers who have supported me over the 19 years I’ve been here and those who have bought my books. I have very fond memories of a large group of people I got to know here. What started out as a very small writing project turned into a hugely popular enterprise that unfolded in ways I never thought possible and for that I’m very grateful.
