Weekend reading

It's been a cold week here in our warm country. We desperately need rain but the forecast isn't offering any hope of that in the near future. I hope the weather at your home is what you want it to be.  I do my last library talk at Nambour next week and then have some scheduled for September in the Moreton Bay area. I'm looking forward to meeting those Brisbane people.

I hope you have a wonderful weekend. Keep smiling. :- )

  1. Rhonda, thanks for the weekend reading links. I just had a look at a couple and they are very interesting. It is also dry here. The rain that is forecast is usually just drizzle and it certainly has turned cold. We have our Simple Living group's soap making workshop tomorrow so it should be a great weekend. I hope yours is relaxing and that you get to see your little Jamie.

    1. We had drizzle all night, Chel but it didn't do much for the tanks. I hope the soap making goes well. Say hello to Margy for me. We're going over to Jamie's for lunch tomorrow. I'm looking forward to it.

  2. Drizzly here in Brisbane - enough to be annoying but not enough to benefit the garden!

  3. Didn't we see the one about Germany leading the way in Solar Issues?

  4. You have a good weekend as well, Rhonda! Once you receive some rain, feel free to send it up north. Up here (west of Rocky), we don't expect rain until January. We have no town water but the veggie garden thrives on treated greywater. All other plants unfortuantely have to wait until the next big downpour.
    Enjoy the cool knitting days/nights!

  5. Happy weekend, Rhonda. We've had a bit of light rain here in Armidale today. Of course I'd love more but I'm grateful for every drop :)

  6. We're in the opposite season so it's been hot and dry here. We too could use a little rain. But it seems like when we do get it this time of year it comes in a gully-washing thunderstorm.
    Enjoy your weekend!

  7. After some serious downpours, it has been hot and sunny here in NJ. My garden is growing like crazy thanks to Mother Nature. Can't wait to check out From Scratch Magazine! Have a great weekend.

  8. Was so excited to attend a kitchen tea on the weekend and one of the guests bought the bride to be your book, Down To Earth! :) It was lovely the conversations that then ensued with other guests! Thanks again for all you share here AND in your fabulous books!
Very cold here in the Highlands, have had the fire on for a number of days now!

  9. I just love and look forward to reading your posts. I have not blogged for a while myself, but am thinking of starting back up. I love how informative your posts are. Especially the Weekend Reading ones. I have a large family and we are 'homesteading' also and your posts are interesting and helpful. Just wanted to say thank you.

  11. I adore your blog! I just found you recently and your life style is what I have been striving for although I haven't gotten as far as I'd like yet. It's so inspiring to find like-minded people. There is no one around me here that understands or wants that type of lifestyle. I love staying home and being outdoors and working and being as self-sufficient as possible. So far I make my own cleaning supplies and detergent, I knit and crochet and sew and try to repurpose and reuse items rather than throwing out or at least give them to the thrift store. Pinterest has been as great tool for that too. Thanks again for your blog and all the informative links you give. Have a great week!

  13. Who could resist a link called 'How to Photograph chickens'?! I'm going to be stalking my chooks all weekend, now, camera in hand...Really useful list, thank you. Have a wonderful weekend.

  14. I hate hate HATE the direct marketing so many charities are using these days, especially since I knew how little of the money collected actually goes to the charity. I'm sure it works out better for the charity in the long run, but I feel it's against the spirit in which the donation was given. I also suspect that's why so many people are feeling burned out when it comes to charity!

I refuse to donate to anyone who direct-sells me any more (except for emergency appeals). Instead, Kin and I set aside a specific amount each quarter and decide which charities to support. Fred Hollows is a favourite of ours, as is a local domestic violence refuge. That way, you can say "NO" to these people without needing to feel guilty.

  16. I haven't been online for a few days, so I'm just catching up with your blog, Rhonda. I love the article on photographing chooks - some great hints there! I've been doing all the wrong things, so as soon as our weather fines up and we can let our girls out, I'll be like Alderandash and chasing them around the yard with my camera!

    1. They haven't released the details yet, Debbie. When I know more, I'll put it on the blog. Or keep your eye open for the newsletter from the Moreton Bay libraries.
