The Simple Life is published today

My second book, The Simple Life, the first in a series of six, is published by Penguin today. I am one of those writers who never thought I'd publish one book, let alone two. So today is a special one for me. The Simple Life is a Penguin Special, with the distinctive Penguin cover. Their aqua blue series is for works of non-fiction. While it's not the same kind of book as Down to Earth, with pictures and beautiful design, it still contains my heart and soul and I truly hope you enjoy it. Everyone can buy either the print or ebook version of it and while it will be available from Amazon and iTunes, you can buy it from the Penguin site here. The book is light so postage will be fairly cheap.  Added later: Apparently the Penguin site is experiencing problems. Please make your purchase here at Bookworld. Several readers have said it's cheaper there and you can order today.

Once again my sincere thanks goes to Penguin for their support of writers world-wide. In particular I want to thank my editor, Daniel Hudspith, who cleverly guided me through the editing process and to my publisher, Andrea McNamara, whose grace and wisdom have seen me through The Simple Life and Down to Earth.

Price: AU $9.99 - print book and AU $7.99 - ebook.
This is from the back cover:
Rhonda Hetzel feels passionately that living simply leads to a richer, more fulfilling existence. Having made the decision to live frugally, embrace sustainability and opt out of the capitalist consumerist mindset, she set about working out how to achieve her goal, learning traditional skills, reducing her spending and environmental impact and focusing on the simple things that make life worth living: family, friends, and a home-cooked meal. This is the story of her journey and the lessons she has learned along the way. Rhonda relates why she wanted to change her lifestyle, what simple living means to her, and offers guidance to those thinking about taking the same path.

I'll be back tomorrow with a post about organising and routines.

  2. Whee! I thought it was yesterday but when I had a look at the Penguin site the date had changed to 26-March. Or perhaps I had misread it the first time. Thanks for the heads up Rhonda.

  6. Hi Rhonda!

I'm so looking forward to your new book! Amazon only offers the Kindle edition and Penguin only ships within Australia, but I'm from Austria/Europe. Do you know if/where/when the printed edition will be available for Europen customers? I love your blog and have learnt many things from you! Congratulations on your second book! 22. I've spent 10 minutes trying to order the book online with Penguin. I've purchased many books and items on line and I have to say the penguin website is not that user friendly. I had my book in the cart, all my payment details and then had to verify the order however I couldn't find anything that took me to the next step so I haven't ordered the book. 2. Kathy, I just ordered mine from Bookworld instead. With the free-to-join Citizen's discount it comes to 8.09 with free shipping. Penguin wanted to charge me $5.00. I hope I don't get into trouble :-)

    3. I checked my bookworld invoice and the payment was made to Penguin. From the Penguin website it seems they've just acquired Bookworld. I do remember that my invoices from Bookworld used to show Pearson.

    4. LOL! no you won't get into trouble, Mrs Meagre. :- ) Pearson is Penguin. The names may have changed since they partnered with Random House.

It looks like a good price at Bookworld. I didn't think to check on them. Thanks for passing that on.

    1. HA! Jess. No, I didn't do that. What I did get a thrill from though was something I hadn't even thought about before it happened - putting The Simple Life next to Down to Earth on the book shelf. There were two books with my name on them. That was quite something. :- )

  30. Congratulations beautiful Rhonda. I'm so pleased for you. I have already placed my order, and was stalking the penguin website yesterday as I thought it was out then! As someone else said, I had problems ordering it via penguin's website but placed the order over the phone. The lady said someone else tried to order that book but had trouble with the website. I said you were very popular so she can only surmise your latest book is crashing their system!!! Love to you. Xxx

  33. Hi Rhonda, I've ordered my book through Bookworld and the total cost including delivery is $8.09 instead of the $14.99 through Penguin which as I mentioned their site does not make sense to me. Apart from the first step of creating a log on with Penguin I spent 5 minutes trying to put a password in (nothing special just usual type of ones) and it didn't like them.....that was frustrating enough and then when I finally got the book into the cart I couldn't get to the check out so deleted the book and tried again but I'm staring at the screen thinking there must be a tab/button to hit to go to checkout but I couldn't work it out. Anyway in the end I've saved myself some money (thanks to the comment above) and my book will be arriving soon. I won't be using the Penguin Website, way too hard. Good result in the end so I'm happy. Regards Kathy A, Brisbane, Australia

  37. Hi Rhonda, I had emailed Penguin first thing this morning after some initial problems with their cart and also to ask if it was possible to pay via an alternative method (PayPal etc.) as I did not want to use a credit card. I had not received a response to my query after being out all day and after reading comments as above I decided to check out Bookworld. I was able to pay with PayPal, direct from my account, so I did that and got the book for $8.09 too. Done is less than five minutes, including signing up for their Citizen of Bookworld club.

I would have ordered the book this morning from Penguin if had I been able to but it has all worked out and I saved money.

I am so looking forward to receiving it and enjoying it from cover to cover:)

  54. I have left a comment for the book over at Bookworld, Rhonda. For some reason it no longer comes up when I search -- possibly because it's out of stock at the moment? I had to click through my orders to find a link to the hard copy of your book. Anyway, I'm sending you some well-wishes for the next books. Hope they'll be out soon (no pressure, lol).
