You, me and the kitchen sink

From China to France, today's kitchen sink is Shandora's in France.

Shandora writes:
"This is my kitchen sink in France. The kitchen is the place where I spend most of my time, so I wanted to have a big kitchen (which is rare in France) so when we bought the house, with the tiny kitchen, I had a wall torn down ( there was a washing room behind it) and made it bigger. On the sink, you can see, I always have dishes or glasses left to dry. (oops, I don't always dry them after washing up) Since I have lots of dishes to wash, it doesn't all fit in the rack, so I sew some cloths from an old blanket and hemmed with an old pyjama of my son, to leave stuff to dry.

I never heard of other things to wash the dishes with, before coming to your blog, so I used sponges... Since I now need to learn how to knit them, I made some "sponges" out of the old blanket and wash up with these, and have to say I'm pretty happy with them. (but still need to learn how to knit, I'm just too curious.)

There's the rice cooker, that's always there (I married a man from the reunion island and he needs his rice every day...being dutch myself I love potatoes and pasta more).

Please don't forget to comment.  A comment is like payment for the time taken to post, and in this case in sending in the photos.  Many of us were enthusiastic about this series, so make sure all the photos get a good number of comments.  I don't want any of the ladies sending in photos to regret joining in.  Thank you friends.

  2. I love seeing all the different kitchens, where women create these marvelous meals that sustain! The French kitchen is just so clean in blue & white. I think that is my favorite combo for a kitchen (tho my own is not).

I tend not to comment when there are many already - guess i feel lost in the crowd!

My sister & another friend each spent a lot of time (sis 3 years, friend 5) in China, teaching English. I never saw pics of their kitchens. It was so much fun to see the kitchen in the last post.

    Thank you for sharing.

  10. What a gorgeous kitchen--so bright and airy! It makes me wish I had a wall in my kitchen that I could tear down to make it bigger!

  11. You talk about small kitchens in France - and I imagined that with the French reputation for fine dining, that they would have big kitchens. Do people dine out at restaurants rather than do lots of home cooking?

  12. I am so enjoying seeing all these kitchen sinks. On my life's wish list is a big farmhouse kitchen sink with a window over it. Every house we have ever owned has the sink against a wall. This kitchen is so beautiful and bright. What a joy it must be to work there.

  36. A lovely kitchen. It was so smart of your to make it a priority to enlarge the kitchen where you spend so much time. I like the light colors and the natural light. I also was very interested to see the kitchen in China....I hope the hot water and window seals will be improved or you will find a place a little better to live in.

Knitting is a definitely a skill I still need to learn but as a child I picked up crochet much easier. I wasn't the most co-ordinated or patient child so using only one tool was much easier. It's worth a try.
