Weekend reading

Kathleen, one of our Frizzles, displaying her magnificent hat of soft feathers.

I hope you've had a good week. Mine has been a bit hectic with a few bundles of bad news coming my way. The weekend should fix that though, for all of us. Sunny and Jamie will share Saturday lunch with us, the rest of the time I'll be working on my patchwork quilt.  Keep smiling, friends.

  6. I've had the same kind of week, Rhonda. Two losses - my husband's stepfather and my son in laws brother. Hardest with the brother, but losses none the less.

Your chooks are beautiful - loving the header and your frizzle.

  7. Love the link to Donal Skehan's blog, it will keep me busy reading this weekend. The Aebelskiver recipe looks like a good one to try in an old cast iron gem scone tray, going to try it out also, smaller but same idea.

    1. With your beautiful name Roisin, I can see why you're interested in Donal's blog. Many great recipes there. My grandma had an old cast iron gem scone tray. Oh, the delights she made using that! Enjoy your weekend. Slainte

  8. Hi, Rhonda! Totally agree with the electric car point in your link on climate change - electric cars are the way to go. My parents just got a brand new Nissan Leaf, that is a fully electric car, they LOVE it - cheap to run, no emission, very quiet. The best car to drive in the city. Currently there are only three of those cars in Christchurch, hopefully they'll become much more popular in the near future!

  9. Hi Rhonda Jean,

Greetings from Ireland. It's been a long time since I visited your blog but something drew me to it this week.

As you probably know, Ireland has gone through a tough time in recent years. In order to pay for the collapse of our banks/property crash, our government has introduced some very severe austerity measures - pay cuts, increased taxes, heath cuts etc. A lot of people were made redundant and lots of small businesses have closed down. There are no jobs for our young people leaving school and college and a whole generation is facing the choice of unemployment or emigration.

Fortunately, my husband and I didn't lose our jobs but I've had to return to work full-time (I used to work part-time before) so we can still pay our mortgage and bills. Life is very hectic right now with us both working full-time and commuting and caring for our small daughter. I look forward to a time in the future when life is a bit easier and we have more time to ourselves. In the meantime, your blog is very inspiring. The warmth and harmony of your home and lifestyle comes across so well.

I'm sorry to read that you've had bad news this week. I hope next week is a happier one for you.

Sending you warm greetings from this side of the world.

    Maria
