Weekend reading

Happy Easter everyone. 🐣

I'm viewing this screen with 20/20 vision; it's the first time my vision has been this good in 40 years.  I had my final eye op on Tuesday, the cataract was removed and a lens inserted in my eye. This lens is the same prescription as my glasses so now I can see well without them - I can even tell the difference between HD and ordinary TV. Amazing. They did a test when I had my post-op check on Wednesday and that revealed the best of all results - 20/20 vision. I was really pleased.  If you're thinking of having this surgery done, go for it. I was anxious before the first surgery but honestly, the worst part of the entire procedure is the six times a day eyedrops for one month, twice.

Hanno has been slowly getting the painting done and I'm very happy with the colours we chose - a very pale blue-grey and a darker blue feature wall.  I'll be reorganising a few things in the living room and kitchen over the weekend (I'm not allowed to garden for two weeks!!) and we'll move closer to having it all done. It's another home maintenance item put to bed for a few years.

We're having another family celebration, this time over at Kerry and Sunny's new home, for Jamie's birthday. He's turning 7. The celebration will be a combined birthday party and house warming. I hope you have a great weekend and enjoy time with your family and friends. Thanks to all those readers who take the time to comment. I love reading your thoughts and knowing that we are all part of a world-wide village. 😍

Potato Kugel This recipe is very similar to my kartoffel puffer recipe, but the cooking of it is completely different.  I'm going to try it.

  1. Have a lovely Easter with your family, Rhonda and a very Happy Birthday to Jamie. He is growing up quickly. Thanks for the reading links. I will check them out. It will be a quiet Easter here as usual. No family visiting from the Outback. Too far to drive just for a couple of days. Give Miss Gracie a big hug from me.

  3. Having 20/20 vision must be a thrill - glad you are through both surgeries now and that everything went well. I have the beginning of a cataract and I will be following in your foot steps one day, so it's good to hear encouraging words about the process. I hope you and your family have a beautiful Easter and that Jamie enjoys celebrating birthday number 7. And I hope you don't mind my saying so, but if I had 20/20 vision I'd sit myself down in that chair and take in the view of Hanno's legs! ;) Beth in MN

  4. That's terrific news, Rhonda! My mum is going to need this done in the next year or so so she needs all the success stories she can get to get over the jitters of the operation.

  5. I like the sound of the paint colours you've chosen, Rhonda. Blues are lovely! Glad you're operation has been a big success. 2 weeks of no gardening though... that's tough! We are having a very quiet Easter here, no plans to go anywhere at all and having lunch on Sunday here with my mother and father in law. Happy birthday to Jamie, 7years old already! I'm sure he'll love having a party. Meg:)

  8. Woohoo for your improved eyesight and your painting achievements. We have a quiet Easter coming up as our children with their own children are away and our other child is working. No matter, more time for hubby and I to stop and smell the roses. Happy Easter to you all.

  10. I'm so pleased your eye surgeries went so well, 20/20 vision is the most perfect of results. Now Hanno will have to be very careful with the painting ... any missed bits and you'll spot them straight away 😊

Hope you have a great Easter. Xx

  15. Happy Birthday Jamie!

My husband is deep in a painting project as well. He has a 2 story stairwell to do and I will be so glad when that is safely done. Have a good weekend all.

  16. And how could I forget to say that I am so pleased about your eye surgery! You give us all courage for when we need to do it and it would sure be nice to lose the daily eye wear! I know you will be just itching to get back to gardening. It nearly drove my Mom nuts when she could not get in the dirt after hers.

  17. Congratulations on the 20/20. It must be so different if you've worn glasses for decades! loved the links as always. the donkey made my day, and that egg recipe collection had my favorite Yotam Ottolenghi recipe so I am emboldened to try the quiche in bread loaf recipe. Good luck with kugel, great for a crowd so you don't miss out while doing potato pancakes.

I too love being part of the global village hosted by your blog and others. I often look up at the clock and think ' Oh Australia's going to bed now' etc. Happy Easter to all.

  21. So very happy that your surgery went well and the outcome is so good.....harvesting and preserving/freezing/bottling still going strong. Getting toward the end now, I think there are just some capsicum and jalapenos to come in now and i will bottle those that aren't eaten fresh. Garden is ready for some broad beans, chard, kale and root vegies...hopefully enough nice weather before Winter sets in to give them a boost as not much happens during that time here in Tassie. Have a lovely weekend Rhonda and Happy Birthday to Jamie! Take care x

  22. Congratulations on your successful eye surgery, Rhonda. I am glad it went so well for you. Happy Birthday to Jamie, and I hope you all have a wonderful Easter. Good reading this weekend; although I was not too impressed by Huw the gardener (he had a lot of green potatoes in there) and hay is not the best insulation; straw is much more preferable since no seeds. Loved the Potato Kugel and plan to have it included for Easter dinner this year. Thanks for all you do.

  24. I'm so happy for you, Rhonda. It must feel incredible to have 20/20 vision again. I strain to read things all the time. Modern medicine is amazing. I feel the same way you do about my new hips. Hope the party was enjoyable. The painting looks lovely. And as a former ballet teacher, I, too have always been very impressed with Hanno's legs.

  27. Hello Rhonda! I was wondering if you will be running a blogging course again? I am very interested in starting a blog again (I had one years ago, you were lovely enough to comment on my post about working in Sydney City as I had a photo up of St Andrews Cathedral at Town Hall and we talked about Kent Street... I also was very lucky to meet you up in the Blue Mountains at your course). Coming to your blog always feels like 'home' to me and I would love to learn more about blogging from you! I am glad your eye surgery was a success and you are recovering well! :-)

    1. Hello Chantel. Of course I remember you at the Blue Mountains workshop and I told you about my ancestor's house in Kent Street in the early 1800s. St Andrews was their local church. 🙂 I think I'll be doing another blogging workshop later in the year, Chantel. I'll put your name on my blogging list but if you see me advertise it, you contact me to make sure. xx
