I'm still working on my Miss Marple Scarf - this time while watching Gardeners' World.
We haven't had such a good week here. Hanno's been fighting hiccups and then was knocked out by the medication the doctor prescribed. Neither of us has had a good night's sleep for ages so we don't have any energy the following day. The good news is that the medication has worked and Hanno has another phone consultation with his doctor today. All the practicalities are taken care of, we're getting our groceries from Woolworths delivery and Sunny is buying our meat. Overall we don't have anything to complain about. We're both content being here but we both wish we had more energy to do what we want to do ... gardening.
A huge thank you to everyone who sent Jamie a birthday message. He really loved them and was amazed so many people knew who he is.
I've been thinking of a post I want to write about the massive changes we're seeing right now. Hopefully, I'll get that done in the coming week. I hope you're coping with the lockdowns and have interesting projects to occupy your time. Take care. 💕

Hi Rhonda - I'm sorry to hear Hanno and you have not been as up and at them as usual. I hope this medication offers some relief and you can both resume some normality. The garden is such a peaceful place to be, and productive, creative. I wish I spent more time in mine. Well, my projects have been getting uni assignments done, and 'homeschooling' the kids. Trying to find non-digital ideas for my year 5 child has been somewhat difficult. I am going to purchase some resources created by an Australian Waldorf teacher who has compiled lesson plans for each of the primary school years that he has used in his own classes, so I am hoping that will help. 6 months of learning at home will be a challenge for the kids - maybe not so much for me - I had always wanted to homeschool, but hubby does not agree - now no choice!
ReplyDeleteTake care, and enjoy your knitting - those yarn colours are gorgeous.
Paula
Hello Paula. Your plan makes perfect sense to me. I just had a quick look at "homeschooling au" and the sites I looked at where computer based, with no option for anything else. I did find this Steiner-based which has a few resource links: https://www.steinereducation.edu.au/resources/ Good luck and I hope you have some garden time soon. That maybe something your daughter can help you with - it's VERY steiner.
DeleteHi there Rhonda and Hanno, thank you for the list Rhonda, something to chew on over the weekend.
ReplyDeleteI was wondering if I could get your thoughts on poly tunnels (if you have any). I need a green/hot house and when I started looking into it I discovered poly tunnels. Now I'm confused. Have a wonderful day! Mandi
Mandi, what sort of climate do you have there?
DeleteI'm in central gippsland. Hot in summer and cold in winter. Several frosts each winter. Autumn extends into may and spring extends to the end of December. Low rainfall. Dry heat.
ReplyDeleteI'm in the subtropics so I've only ever had a greenhouse. I think you'd be better off with a glasshouse or plastic poly tunnel, exclosed at both ends to keep the warmth in. You can always put plants under the shade of a tree in summer. But you should ask someone else because I've never had a poly tunnel.
DeleteSorry to read that both you and Hanno are not getting the sleep you need. I hope better nights return soon. MegXx
ReplyDeleteStay safe and well. The world is a little strange at the present. I am glad that Hanno is better,
ReplyDeleteDear Rhonda and Hanno, hope you will both have a better week. Sleepless nights with tired days start to feel accumulative after a while and these things seem to take longer to get over as we get older I find! Birthday wishes to dear Jaime, (I'm not used to instagram)We had to do birthday wishes for our grandson on FaceTime also and even though they made a special effort and we know it's not forever, I still had a little sad spot over my ❤️ But I am enjoying potteringoutside, knitting new dishcloths and aiming to finish a crosstitch I started last year. Best wishes.
ReplyDeleteDear Rhona, I hope you and Hanno have turned the corner with regard to your health and that you now will get the sleep we all need. Then surely your batteries will feel recharged and you´ll have energy for all the things you want to do. My week hasn´t been topnotch either. Woke up with a sore through and difficuly in breathing. Just a minute or two of worry, but there´s no way we could pick up the C-virus seeing we´ve been isolated for 3 weeks. No, just a serious cold which brought out my asthma. Hasn´t happened for years but things are looking better now and enerygy levels increasing. Our garden, seedlings etc will just have to wait but I can still wield a crochet hook. I have a brilliant Icelandic designer to thank for my renewed interest. I we shouldn´t put links here (understandable nd just remove this part if I´m saying too much!)so will just say her name is Tinna Thorudottir. Her designs looks so complicated but they are easypeasy. Take care of yourselves. Here´s hoping we all keep well and busy during these tough times.
ReplyDeleteBest wishes from Sweden
Ramona
I hope you're feeling better now, Ramona. Take it easy and look after yourself. xx
DeleteI hope that you and Hanno are both getting some decent sleep and catching up on lost energy. Stay safe.
ReplyDeleteSorry to hear you and Hanno have been feeling under the weather Rhonda.
ReplyDeleteThings here with us are a mix. Grant has been laid off, but he is making the most of the time and getting through jobs on the farm. We have plans for a couple of income streams. One is his bugs which are going well and he hopes to expand and the other is to start a market garden, which so far our research shows to be a goer.
Little Elsie is going beautifully, and the boys have settled into a home schooling routine well. We are lucky to be able to self isolate in sucha a beautiful place.
I love the Hannah Hauxwell clip, there is another wonderful clip about a woman who lives an old fashioned life in a little white thatched cottage and cooks everything over an open fireplace I love, have you seen that one? I think you would enjoy it.
I hope this week is easier for you both.
xx
It sounds like you're all moving steadily forward - which is the best speed for sustainable progress. There are many more Hannah clips and the other one is Margaret Gallagher and her cottage.
DeleteWe're still going slow here but that's fine. We have all the time in the world and no pressure to do anything. The house is clean and tidy, we have a full stockpile cupboard and the three of us are happy. I'm hoping we can get into the garden tomorrow. I'll feel better about it when the seedings are in the ground and growing. xx
hope that you and Hanno are improving. I've got two books of biography about Hannah Hauxwell which I might read again. About to sew some seeds for some salad.
ReplyDeleteHope to hear soon that Hanno and you are feeling more up to par!! Hubby and I sure understand...he has coughed himself nearly to death...though it is possible that a medication he was put on a few months ago was at least partially to blame. He stopped it and the coughs are almost gone now...I have been up many nights making him some Herbal Strawberry and Pomegranate tea...which seemed to soothe his throat way more than anything else we tried. I began to feel like I did tending to sick kids for many years!! Rest all you can!!
ReplyDeleteAs a few days have passed I do so hope you and Hanno are feeling better and you have some more energy.
ReplyDeleteI haven't minded lockdown here as we don't get a lot of visitors normally.
The first 12 days I have been mostly in the kitchen preserving, baking, making meals to freeze and waste nothing.
I have a cardigan for me that has been put aside for a month or two that I hope to finish this week and a quilt 3/4 finished that I want to complete. I have also planted seeds in trays.
I think 4 weeks of lockdown might not be enough for me lol and I think I will lock myself done when it is officially over

That is good the hiccup medication is working. I am ready to garden too, and might order some veggies to plant from our local garden company. You phone in an order and they bring it out and put it in the trunk of your car, so staying at a good distance.
ReplyDeleteIm doing my best to keep things normal in my house with my 5yr old home. WE have online learning and he loves seeing his teacher on the computer. Im trying to blog about as many things as I can to keep others occupied with ideas also. So much baking!
ReplyDeleteIt is a rotten time, so hard to get our heads around. Not enough sleep makes all worse. Glad Hanno’s hiccups settled. No vegetable gardening here only garlic and herbs at the moment. I do like the scarf also like Miss Marple! Look after yourselves Rhonda and Hanno.xx
ReplyDeleteHope you and Hanno are feeling better. Thank you for the introduction to Watched Walker, I thoroughly enjoyed watching both walks and shall investigate further. Love seeing anything about Hannah Hauxwell, she was such a gentle soul.
ReplyDeleteRhonda, as a former resident of Yorkshire, I randomly read the local papers online and saw this. I know you have featured this amazing woman before and thought you might like to include in your weekend reading (always a highlight of my Fridays!) https://www.yorkshirepost.co.uk/lifestyle/homes-and-gardens/hannah-hauxwells-treasured-family-quilt-set-set-star-bowes-museum-exhibition-3042285
ReplyDeleteI hope this works as I couldn't work out how to email you (I'm low tech!)
Best wishes
