You, me and the kitchen sink

Vickie is the proud owner of today's kitchen.  Thanks for taking part in this Vickie.

Vickie writes:
"I'm Vickie from Sand Flat Farm in East Texas. I loved your idea of seeing everyone's kitchens.  I know you're getting swamped with photos, but I still wanted to send mine. This is our 70+ year old farmhouse which we recently redid cottage style. Everything vintage from garage sales, hand-me-downs, estate sales, etc., went into our farmhouse. I do have a stainless sink that was put in several years ago, and we didn't change that. I'd love to have one of those big deep farm sinks someday.

The kitchen was DARK knotty pine and we took off the cabinet doors and painted everything a light green and yellow. Over my kitchen window, I took an old crocheted pillowcase from a garage sale and fashioned a little valance. I collect old pitchers, and I have lots of things from my grandmothers. (I did have to get me a new microwave & stove because the others were kaput!)  I LOVE my kitchen and enjoy looking out the window at our farm while I'm cooking or washing up.

 Thanks for looking!"

You can visit Vickie's blog here.

Please don't forget to comment.  A comment is like payment for the time taken to post, and in this case in sending in the photos.  Many of us were enthusiastic about this series, so make sure all the photos get a good number of comments.  I don't want any of the ladies sending in photos to regret joining in.  Thank you friends.

  12. Lovely kitchen Vickie....I really like the colors especially. You have done such a nice job of making it homey and charming and inviting.

On a side note....thank-you Rhonda for this series and letting us peek into each others homes. It is so refreshing to see all the different and creative spaces that your readers are cooking in. After the boring sameness of what we see on cable tv, it is WONDERFUL to see such individuality.

  26. LOVE it! Your kitchen is just screaming out for a vintage Chambers Stove. You can find them in that mint green color. I found one in mint condition in a soft yellow and redid my kitchen to a yellow and blue theme. I love that stove, it cooks like a powerhouse and uses less fuel than traditional ovens. Here is my yellow baby, named "Mae" (people LOVE to name their Chambers)

I'll see if I can find a picture of a green one for you. It would be PERFECT!

  28. I love this kitchen! The pitchers are so fun and colorful - and the idea of the crocheted pillowcase at the window is wonderful. Makes me wish I had a window in my (apartment) kitchen, so I could do something like that!

  29. Yes, I really like the spoons on the drawers and doors. I had seen some one time and thought that was just what was needed in our church kitchen. One drawer is for forks, one for spoons, and one for knives.. You never get the right one the first time??

  30. I love your kitchen. All those open shelves, hum gives me ideas!

  31. Love the colour scheme, furnishings and the ambiance of the whole room Vicki.
What I am really enjoying about this "kitchen sink" series is the realness of the kitchens. Someone uses them and loves them not like those ( sorry minimalists) dreadful decorating magazine kitchens.
Also I have been inspired to tidy up my walk in pantry , which is always a good thing to do.
    Happy Day to all.

  55. How very cute! I love the color and the trims. It kind of reminds me of the kitchen in my grandmother's old house, which is a 120 year old Victorian era cottage in Melbourne. But yours is so much nicer. I'd love to do something like that in our soon-to-be next house but as it's an 80's style house I doubt I'd be able to carry off the look.
