Unfortunately it is really hard to come by pineapples with their tops intact here in NZ as they take the tops off so that people can't grow them themselves and instead have to keep buying the imported ones. Such a shame.SMPLFYhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/16885227997143876671noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5089828552519076506.post-56195393619772617922013-03-16T01:38:41.126+10:002013-03-16T01:38:41.126+10:00Thanks Rhonda I will give this a go although how m...Thanks Rhonda I will give this a go although how much success I will have is unsure. Your memories of England are correct we are having some awful weather at the moment and have had all year still cant hurt to give it a go. I was going to pull it out so I have more room to garden. But now that I know it takes longer, I will keep it in the ground.Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5089828552519076506.post-45692596747980133422013-03-14T08:08:44.561+10:002013-03-14T08:08:44.561+10:00Claire, it needs to be in the ground for two years...Claire, it needs to be in the ground for two years in warmth. If you have pots big enough that you can bring inside and keep near a very sunny window all through winter. It might work but from my memories of England, it's not all that sunny in winter.rhonda jeanhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/08962112306968959985noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5089828552519076506.post-64348141857036094572013-03-14T07:35:43.514+10:002013-03-14T07:35:43.514+10:00We ate our first homegrown pineapple recently - it...We ate our first homegrown pineapple recently - it was so delicious. Now I wonder why I haven't planted the tops before! Motivated by our success, we now have about 10 tops in, so we'll be set for pineapples in a few years :)

Rhonda, I hope your foot is starting to mend. Those tiny pineapples are so cute when they first start out. A man once told me that the best way to fertilize a pineapple is to give it a whole red delicious apple every spring and just let it rot and decompose at the base of the plant. He said it will give the plant all the nutrients it needs. I have not tried it and my Mom was skeptical so I have no proof that it works. momma-lanahttps://www.blogger.com/profile/02975411711120382015noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5089828552519076506.post-8865237322647729082013-03-14T06:04:31.277+10:002013-03-14T06:04:31.277+10:00I think it's too cold here as I don't know...I think it's too cold here as I don't know anyone with a pineapple tree, but I'm curious as to how tall they get.
