Weekend reading

The girls are laying 6 eggs a day now. This is two day's worth.

Hello everyone. I hope all is well in your neck of the woods.  I'm still recovering and feeling quite good today.  I went to see my doctor yesterday and have a treatment plan I'm happy with, with the option of a cortisone injection into my knee if I want to go down that route. I have the form here, all I have to do is book the appointment if what I'm doing stops working.

Tricia is coming up for a visit and will arrive next week so I want to be well while she is here. The three of us, Tricia, Hanno and I, have been healthy all through our lives and all of are now coming to terms with our mortality and how to handle old age. It will be good to be together to support each other and just do what we can and be happy with that. I'm looking forward to her visit.

  1. Rhonda, enjoy Tricia's visit. Yes, getting older certainly does present some challenges even after a lifetime of good health. The clouds have moved in here so we might get a few drops of rain followed by a cold morning tomorrow. I love the winter weather. Have a wonderful weekend.

  3. I'm sure you are much looking forward to your sister's visit. It's wonderful when longed-for catch-ups happen. I am very glad it is Friday, having worked most of this first week back at school. I am doing a sewing course on the weekend, where we make a pattern from a garment we already have, so I'm looking forward to that. I've chosen old curtain/upholstery fabric to make a favourite skirt. Have a lovely weekend, Rhonda. Meg:)

  4. Glad to hear that you re feeling better. I have had a cortisone injection in my shoulder and it worked immediately; miraculous. You just need a doctor who knows how to get it into the right spot. Best regards, lepidilla

  5. Enjoy your sister visit! Like you often say, 'Aging is not for wimps!' We are feeling it, too.

We have the exact same recycling crisis here in the USA. We save our recyclables and sort them and then take them to the recycle center ourselves so it is a mindful choice to recycle. When we heard about the crisis on the news my husband called to ask about what is being done here and was assured that our recyclables are not going to the landfill at this point. But, we have not been able to recycle glass for several years. We try to reuse it as much as possible but we cannot keep everything.

  6. Hi Rhonda, I hope the cortisone shot gives you relief, if you decide to do it. My grandma had both of her knees replaced, because they became shaped like bent spoons. In my case, removing the diseased hip joints was like fixing a bad tooth. It gave immediate relief. I hope you have a wonderful visit with Tricia, and find the solution that is best for your knee.

  7. The article about details on buildings in London was interesting. If you are interested in quirky London you might like to look at Spitalfields Life written by the Gentle Author. Spitalfields was an area famous for silk weaving and has a fascinating history. The Gentle Author writes about history and changes in the area brought about by the modern world, interesting local characters etc.

  8. I had a steriod shot in my knee about two months ago. the relief was almost immediate. Unfortunately, the pain is coming back. i wonder how often you can get a shot? Forgot to ask that! Are you considering a knee replacement?

    1. Oh no, I'd never have that kind of surgery. My knee should be fine for another ten years with care and treatment. I'm not even sure I'll have the injection yet.

  15. Hi Rhonda, a friend of mine suffers from very bad rheumatoid arthritis but has been doing tai chi for years. She used to be a nurse (with stints in ER) before she retired and always maintains that it helps keep her active. She mixes eastern and western practices. She sees her GP, has a naturopath and does tai chi as part of her health regime.

Tai chi can be helpful for anyone who has arthritis including osteoarthritis. Some city councils offer free weekly tai chi and qigong (pronounced chee gong) classes if anyone is curious. I always come away from the outdoor classes feeling refreshed and I'm surprised at how many people attend (even in the rain?!). Take Care and always enjoy your posts and pics! H :0)
