Curlew Country - a very pretty UK blog

I love French Knots - it's a beautiful and creative blog. I used to follow French Knots a couple of years ago but somehow I lost it. It's been a lovely reunion.

  1. I can relate to the story about dad's missing home first hand. Mr A turned down his dream job (which he had worked hard for years to actually reach) because it meant too much time away from home and the girls. But I'm so glad he did! I just hope he doesn't resent his decision later in life.

  4. I love reading your 'weekend reading' posts... always such wonderful blogs that I end up following (or already follow!)
Can't wait to get my copy of your book! :) We've just bought in a small rural town on a 1/2 acre block we have solar energy, septic, tank water... it's an adjustment but an amazing one! I'm sooooo looking forward to rereading many of your posts and getting inspiration, tips and ideas to make our living more sustainable! :) Thanks x

  5. What a lovely idea this is Rhonda - I so enjoy perusing all the new ideas you bring to us. Might make some bread this weekend since it looks as though it is going to be too wet to garden!

  9. We have been making the no knead bread for a couple years now. Our recipe is on line under New York Times No Knead bread. They also have a you tube. Although the ingredients are the same the way to do it is even easier than the Mother Earth News one. It has a few less steps. Also this recipe has oven temp. of 450 instead of this one at 475. It cooks only 30 minutes with the such dutch oven lid on all the time and does not need the extra minutes to brown. It is golden at 30 minutes...thus saving fuel. We have never had a failure. Grit magazine had a special bread issue {you can call them for it} and it had many variations on this recipe too to make different types of bread plus has many many regular bread recipes. The recipe magazine was called Guide To Homemade Bread and is part of Grit magazines country soil series. As I said the recipe we use is on the net under New York Times No Knead Bread. Rhonda I love your weekend feature with all the links. sarah

  10. Hello Rhonda,

Just want to wish you a very Happy Birthday on Sunday. Your book came to me this past Tuesday and I've already read it from cover to cover. I dearly love it and I know it will be one of my favorite reference books, both in terms of skills and for the warm feelings you convey in your writing. It is my best birthday present so far...(we share the same birthday except I'm a year older than you).

Love from Diane in North Carolina
