Closing the gates

I need to get back to my life today. I need to fold this life around myself and rediscover the healing benefits of it. After three busy days at work, with one very sad and troubled day yesterday dealing with people who are being kicked while they're down, I have to see for myself that all life is not like that.

Apart from busying myself in the kitchen this morning with bread and a cake, I'll be sifting through seeds, planting, mixing potions and giving the worms a new bed. I want to be engrossed with living this morning, I want to tightly close the front gates, bury myself in being here and stop remembering yesterday.

Later today I'll phone my chook lady, Margaret, and find out if she's candled the eggs, and if so, how many chicks we have growing under her broody. I might also look around for some pullets or young hens - we are down to three chooks and need more to supply our eggs. I've gone off eating eggs lately but I still use them in my baking and Hanno eats a couple every day. We also supply our local worm man with eggs, so we need to get moving.

Today is the first of five days I'll have off over Easter. In Australia we have a four day Easter break, with Good Friday and Easter Monday being public holidays in all our States. Here at our little homestead, I'll be relaxing and reconnecting, sewing and knitting, gardening, writing and reading. My two books from Amazon arrived yesterday and are now sitting on the kitchen table waiting for their first opening. All I need now is a comfy chair, a cup of tea and an Airedale at my feet and I'll be right.

  2. Do take care Rhonda! Ten years ago, after a horrible experience, I reigned in our lives and became a bit reclusive. Our family is so much happier. I don't isolate my children by any means -- they go to public school and participate in many activities. But, when they are not busy with these things, we all are home doing the activities we love. We garden, have cows and calves, go fishing, etc. I don't like going off to visit people everyday, I don't talk on the phone or cell phone all day, and I don't email 50 different people each day. I truly don't know how people can stand doing that. I am content to just be at home so I know exactly where you are coming from. Take care and enjoy your day!

  6. Have a wonderful holiday weekend reconnecting with home Rhonda. Being in a helping profession can be draining, and you need time to fill your well.

  8. Your coming few days sound just right. I'm feeling the same way, exactly. We've had so much business between baby plans and wedding plans and a week and a half of non stop stay over guests and relatives. I am spending our Easter weekend relaxing and focusing on home and family. Have a wonderful weekend!

  9. Have a great Easter and recharge your batteries. We all need our own sanctuary and time alone allows a person to understand themselves better.

  10. That sounds like a very satisfying and comforting plan for the Easter break and I guess in keeping with the spirit of the season; the renewal and hope of life. I hope it is everything you need it to be.

Down south here, tonight our family will be having a thanksgiving harvest dinner to celebrate the autumn equinox, in gratitude for the summer crops. If we're very very lucky it may even rain!

    Regards, Marilyn

  11. I hope that you have a very relaxing break and that you are able to recharge yourself. Sit on the veranda, read a book and have some tea with Hanno while Alice and Rosie stretch out and snooze. Take care and Happy Easter!

  12. I understand where you are coming from Rhonda as I work in an industry (law) where I encounter people's problems every day - some worse than others - and you see just how low some people can stoop. When I go home to our farm of an evening my husband gives me a hearing then says ok you are home now - embrace it - and I do. You really have to let go and hunker down into your own world as you are wanting to do. We are lucky to have these refuges to return to after our forays into the outside world! Take care and treat yourself gently Rhonda. Have a great Easter break.
