Swiss chard is one of my favs though I have always been wary of eating too much because of oxalic acid though I am not sure what risk that really is. We eat a tonne of beets, orach, spinach, and sorrel too.

Our garden is about to go to bed under the white blanket of winter snow shortly.Ottawa Gardenerhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/14486499450332482461noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5089828552519076506.post-75627383913987967272008-10-18T04:25:00.000+10:002008-10-18T04:25:00.000+10:00I hope you are having a wonderful time at the conf...I hope you are having a wonderful time at the conference. We also had sliced tomatoes, the very last of this year. I like to think we are in opposites sides of the world yet we had the same dinner for the same reasons. I live in the west and was one of the early pioneers of the voluntary simplcity movement here(back in the early 1980's) that never really took off at the time. Now it may do as economic times have changed vastly!! Things seem to hva ecome a long way since those days. I Will be popping back for more goodies and ideas here - I am so excited about being here - can you tell?? lol!!! cheers from the west KrissieEverydaythingshttps://www.blogger.com/profile/02562558164959015562noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5089828552519076506.post-78080607950327087612008-10-15T11:53:00.000+10:002008-10-15T11:53:00.000+10:00Ohhhh, tomatoes. There are Black Krim in the heirloom mix, so I hope some of them fruit. Fruit fly hit us badly in Jan-Feb unless it's very dry, in which case the tomatoes don't fruit well anyway. Best wishes to all the tomato growers!Chookiehttps://www.blogger.com/profile/07230973711859964063noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5089828552519076506.post-78572769959734123442008-10-15T11:06:00.000+10:002008-10-15T11:06:00.000+10:00Your garden is always fabulous and so inspiring.Your garden is always fabulous and so inspiring.Christie Grothhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/15884314946318649337noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5089828552519076506.post-39718884859423137632008-10-15T09:16:00.000+10:002008-10-15T09:16:00.000+10:00Hi Chas dear. Continuous planting is the most difficult part of growing, I think.

Leanne, we can grow most things year round here. Our limiting factor is heat - when it's over about 35C, tomatoes won't set their flowers, the silverbeet falls over and the lettuce turn up their toes and set seeds. Good luck with your crops this season.

Thanks Lizzie, I'll remember the black krim.

Kilgor, I'm in Australia, about half way up the eastern coast and just north of Brisbane.Rhonda Jeanhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/00175785349529109084noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5089828552519076506.post-42626942108953023672008-10-15T09:04:00.000+10:002008-10-15T09:04:00.000+10:00It's fall here in Arkansas (USA) and I am wrapping...It's fall here in Arkansas (USA) and I am wrapping my summer garden up. My Dad use to mix a little vegemite and water together in a jar, punch holes in the lid and then hang it in every fruit tree. Lordy it stinks but he says it works. Might be worth a try. I think he used about 1 teaspoon of vegemite and enough water to turn it into a slurry consistency.
Cheers,
Bron
www.crankycockatoo.blogspot.comBronhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/06341871563342173148noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5089828552519076506.post-85476173950149737072008-10-15T05:59:00.000+10:002008-10-15T05:59:00.000+10:00Your garden is so lovely.
