Weekend reading

I'm looking forward to the weekend. I have three busy weeks ahead when I'll be speaking at our libraries and sewing here in my work room. The weather is getter hotter now so there is less work in the garden but I still have those elkhorns to set up on the verandah. I'll take a photo to show you when I'm finished, it should look beautiful.

Thanks for your comments and visits during the week. It's always amazed me that I have such a readership and you're still here plodding along with me after all these years. Thank you. See you next week. ♥︎

We often see women's sewing blogs but here is one from Peter in New York. He's making some great men's clothes at Male Pattern Boldness including jeans, pyjamas and shirts.

  1. Ooh, thank you for the link to the Christmas wreath….I've made a few before but have always used an existing cane wreath which makes it rather chunky. Why have I never thought of using a coat hanger??!

  2. I'm glad to see my bias against hand-sanitizer (and my preference for plain or soap and water) confirmed. Likewise I'm pleased to see my belief in the healing power of chicken soup confirmed. :)
    Have a great weekend Rhonda.

  4. Dear Rhonda,

I am from Romania and it is a delight to read your blog. It's been almost two years since I've been reading it. Some posts are comfort for my soul; other, practical ideas to put in practice. But mostly, sharing your experience and advice about a simple life and early retirement has encouraged me and make me think that is really possible. Your blog being one of my favorites, I thought I must let you know that. So, thank you for the beautiful and interesting posts.

  5. In the US we got a kick out of the link to geographic word use! But re: tomato sauce: I stumbled over a recipe in the library that saved me when I had an unexpected bumper crop of 80 lbs of tomatoes. It said to slice them half inch thick and lay them one layer thick on a greased cookie sheet. Roast at 300 degrees for 3 hours, then run them through a food processor. Nothing is done to skin or seed. The result is roasty-flavored and a thickness between sauce and paste. I often turn the result into spaghetti sauce before freezing it for winter. When the frost is coming on I pull all the tomatoes in - red, pink, and green - and let them ripen on a sheet on the sun porch. Every Saturday for a month and a half he red ones come in for roasting and saucing. Works great.

  6. Oh yes; Male Pattern Boldness. I have been reading Peter's blog for years now; it is clever and very informative. Glad you discovered it and are sharing it with others.
